Behavior Plan
In my experience, I feel classroom management is most effective when the classroom revolves around respect. Some ways that I incorporate this is through our Bucket Filling Program, Garden of Good Manners Tally Sheets and Good Work Tickets. It is also necessary that students are managers of their behavior and are responsible for themselves as well as the whole group. I encourge our class to be a family community. We are here to help each other and build each other up.
Bucket Filling: Bucket filling is a large part of our classroom. The concept being that each child has their own bucket pocket. Each child is encouraged to help "fill" each other's buckets by writing kind words and notes to each other. It is a way to celebrate each student and their differences. "Bucket Fillers" are those who help without bing asked, give hugs and compliments, and generally spread their love and good feelings to others.
Garden of Good Manners: In addition to our buckets, children are encouraged to use good manners. Students quickly learn that I enjoy good manners and kindness towards others. We talk about each flower and times you could use those manners.
Tally Sheets: Each student will have a tally sheet, and they are given a new sheet at the beginning of each week. Listed on this sheet are essential elements of behavior that I expect students to follow. If a student is not doing "their job," they will get a tally mark next to the behavior they were not following. Here are conduct sheet expectations: Uses time wisely, is attentive and listens, follows directions, is cooperative, shows respect for others, observes rules and procedures.
Each week a grade is recored based on the tallies received that week.
0-5 tallies is a level 3
6-9 tallies is a level 2
10 or more tallies is a level 1
A student would have to consistently have 5 tallies a week to be a level 2 on their report card. A conduct sheet is sent home every week in their Tuesday folder. Please sign and return the next day on Wednesday.
Good Work Tickets: Students really want to earn Good Work Tickets! They can earn tickets at any time during the day for following directions, being helpful to another student or to a teacher, using great manners, etc. At the end of the day we have a class raffle and students put in all their tickets from the day. I choose one ticket at the end of the day and students can pick from the reward list. The concept being the more tickets you have, the better chance you have to win the raffle.
Students who get a tally can not play in the raffle and have to throw away their tickets from that day. We will begin our raffle and good work tickets after our first track out.
Whole Class Reward: We also have a bead cup. Whenever the class is being super good as a whoe group, they can earn a bead. Once we fill up to the line, we will have a whole class reward.
